Competitions and Awards

2005 CRC and NSW Weedbuster Lord of the Weeds competition

    CRC and NSW Weedbuster worked collaboratively to award three prizes to finalists in the Lord of the Weeds competition.

    Three schools in NSW received $100 each for outstanding reports for controlling weeds on their school grounds.

    Congratulations to:

    • Coonabarrabran High Scool - Victoria Kelly and Michelle Web
    • Narara Valley High School - Beth Kippist, Danielle Oliffe and Steve McGinnity
    • St Johns College - Josh Dorrington and Mick Melius

2003 Queensland Project Weedbuster Competition

    The Queensland Project Weedbuster Competition was a great success, with schools from all over Queensland mapping weeds in their schools or nearby parks and bushland, and preparing action plans to tackle the weeds.

    The competition introduced students, the land and water managers of the very near future, to the issue of weeds in our environment, and gave them practical skills and experience in weed management and control.

    Congratulations to the winners:

    Primary schools

    Winner: Burnside State Primary, Nambour
    Runner up: Toowong State School, Toowong
    Highly commended: Ironside State School, St Lucia

    High Schools

    Winner: Merrimac State High School, Mermaid Waters
    Runner up: Moura SEU students, Moura

2003 Victorian Weedbuster Award

    The efforts of Weedbusters in Victoria were recognised and celebrated at a gala award ceremony at the Melbourne Zoo on Friday 18th October. Minister for Environments, presented four of Victoria's best Weedbusters with awards to recognise their achievements in protecting the State's environment

    Private Land award: Weeds for Trees Network
    Public Land Award: Chandler Hill Parkcare Group
    Education award: Murrabit Group School

    Excellence Award: Ken Moncur, Friends of Jacksons Creek
    Special Achievement Award: Melbourne Zoo

2003 Tasmanian 'Golden Woody' Awards

    The Tasmanian Weedbuster ("Golden Woody") Awards were presented on Monday 18th August during Landcare Week.

    Congratulations to the category winners

    Education award: Summerdale Primary School
    Private Land award: John Shoobridge, from Cleveland, Ouse
    Public Land award: The Stanley Peninsula Land & Coastcare Group
    Best All Round Perpetual Trophy: Carl Trost, East Coast Regional Weed Strategy Group
