Organising or attending an event
Numerous events are held every year to help raise awareness and increase understanding about the problems weeds cause, and how to stop the spread of weeds.
Organisations, groups and individuals are encouraged to get involved in their own way. You can organise an event or take part in one.
To find registered Weedbuster activities in your local area or on a particular day, visit the Weedbuster events register on this page.
By hosting an event during Weedbuster Week you can:
- Protect our environment from the impact of weeds
- Raise awareness about the problems weeds cause
- Raise your group's profile and promote your achievements
- Connect and share ideas with other Weedbusters
- Appeal to new members, students or audience
If you are planning an event, please register it here, so your event becomes officially recognised.
Event Ideas
There are many ways to raise awareness and increase understanding of the problems caused by weeds and how to prevent their spread. Weedbuster events can range from guest speakers to weeds clean-up events. Don't forget to invite the local media or write your own media story or letter to the editor about it.
Here are some popular Weedbuster week activities:
- Hold a community weed clean-up at your local creek, wetland or park and follow-up with a sausage sizzle for the volunteers
- Organise a tour of weed infestation sites and rehabilitation areas for community members or school children
- Invite a local wildlife or weed expert speaker to come to your event or talk to your community or school
- organise a field day with weed identification
- set up a display in your local shopping centre.
Whatever you chose to do, make sure it is something you can achieve. It is far more rewarding to do something well, even if it isn't overly ambitious..
By succeeding and meeting your goals, you are also more likely to get participants returning for your next event.
